5 Building Blocks of AI StorytellingStories have always been a way to connect people, share ideas, and spark imagination. Today, AI gives us new ways to shape those stories, whether through words, images, voices, and interactive experiences. In The AI Toolkit for Librarians, I introduced the 5 Building Blocks of AI Storytelling as a framework to make sense of these possibilities. This page expands on that idea by offering a free poster you can download and share.

Explore the Building Blocks

Each block highlights a different stage of storytelling and will soon be paired with suggested AI tools (check back soon).

  1. Plan – Tools for story starters, structuring, and dialogue creation

  2. Visuals and Characters – Image generators and design platforms to bring settings and characters to life

  3. Sound – AI voices, music, and sound effects that add atmosphere and personality

  4. Video – Platforms for turning scripts into video clips or animated scenes

  5. Interactivity – Tools that create branching narratives, interactive media, and immersive environments

What We Learned

The Building Blocks show that AI storytelling is not about replacing creativity. It is about extending it. Librarians can use this framework to:

  • Support writing and creative projects across grade levels

  • Create engaging displays, posters, or multimedia resources

  • Offer workshops where patrons experiment with multiple tools

  • Encourage students and community members to explore new ways of sharing their voices
